As a Christian it’s sometimes really easy to be led by our feelings.
What are feelings?
In my own words:
a present and momentary reaction to a situation that stirs different emotions and impulses
When something happens that we don’t like or are uncomfortable about it’s almost guaranteed that our emotions will shift around.
Here’s the thing I love about Jesus. He NEVER changes. The God of the Bible just does NOT change.
That is such!! A Relief!!
Why do you ask? Because let me tell you what else changes besides our feelings…Life, people, bank accounts, health, schools, laws, tv, places, food.. I think you get the point.
When life and all that goes on in life constantly changes, God’s character, love for us, or Word never changes.
God is our ROCK. His goodness and faithfulness remain forever.
With that context, here are 3 reasons our feelings are deceptive:
Feelings Change (It’s a fact!)
Feelings are not rooted on TRUTH or what is REAL. (There are a lot of “what if” ((things that are not real)) thoughts that give us certain feelings, think about it!)
Feelings are not planned and can be impulsive. (Feelings don’t consider the necessary logical outcome of our reaction. They often don’t take wisdom into consideration.)
I really like the saying, “Think before you speak.” But I also think we should, “Think before we react on our feelings.”
God created feelings.
There are definitely reasons for why we have emotions! God created them for good! Feelings are awesome because they are essential to life and embody the goodness of being a human on God’s beautiful Earth. They are a blessings!
To make it clear:
Although feelings are blessings, we have to use them for what they are made for: To feel. Feelings allow us to feel:JoySorrowPainShameLaughterPeaceWorryFearPleasureThis list can go on.
We shouldn’t make decisions based off feelings, but also use logic and wisdom to come to a conclusion.
With God’s Word and God leading us, we can Depend on Him to give us truth, strength, and wisdom to make choices that will be for God’s glory.
God illuminates the way for His beloved children!
Grace and Peace.
